Jerry Noernberg

Jerry W. Noernberg passed away surrounded by family at his Lee’s Summit home on November 12, 2017 from complications of ALS. He was born January 25, 1944 in Kansas City, KS, graduated from Turner High School, and attended Penn Valley Comm. College and UMKC. He joined the US Army National Guard and served as a medic in Vietnam 1968-1969. He was a maintenance mechanic for the US Postal Service Bulk Mail Ctr. from 1975-2009.In retirement he transported patients for the OP Eye Surgery Ctr. He loved bluegrass music and played guitar and mandolin. He attended Walnut Valley Festival and Kaufman Acoustic Kamp for many years, played with Mill Creek Express in late 1970’s, and attended jams in the area. Throughout his life he enjoyed time with family and friends, camping, motorcycles, photography, history, reading, cooking, and antiques. He married Jean Nuernberger on July 17, 1987 and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Mary Noernberg. He is survived by his wife of the home, daughter Christine F. Baker of Merriam, son and daughter-in-law Joseph B. and Sarah Noernberg of Highlands Ranch, CO, grandchildren Eddie Baker (Warrensburg), Aerial Crow (Kansas City), Ashley Crow, Tim Crow, Jr., and great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brother Dennis Noernberg (Charlotte) and sister Molly Eggers (Robert), five nephews, great niece and nephews, cousins, mother-in-law Janis Nuernberger, and extended family members. Funeral services will be at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1700 Westport Rd. on Saturday, November 18 with Visitation at 9:30, Service at 11:00. Inurement at 2:00 Terrace Park Cemetery. In place of flowers, the family suggests donations in his memory to Mid-America Chapter ALS Association, Kansas City Hospice, or the church Memorial Fund. The family extends it gratitude to Kansas City Hospice staff, KU physicians (Drs. D. Girod, S. Williamson, and M. Glenn) and staff of Otolaryngology dept. and ALS Clinic.
