Joan Hitchborn

March 28, 1934 — February 6, 2015

Joan Marie Hitchborn of Smithville, MO; passed away peacefully at home after a long and valiant battle with cancer on Friday, February 6, 2015.  She was almost 81 years old having been born March 28, 1934 to Troy and Ruth Hunter, now deceased, of Kansas City, North.  She graduated from Central High School in Kansas City and KC Junior College. She met her husband Chuck while he was still serving in the Marine Crops and they were married in 1952, and have recently celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary.

She was employed as Service Dept. Secretary at Midway Ford Truck Center form many years retiring in 1987. After his military career, Chuck also worked and retired from Ford Motor Company where he served as a Dept. Manager in Industrial Relation EI Center at the Claycomo Assembly Plant. After both retired they moved to a high mountain community of Arrowhead, CO where they lived until 1995, when they returned to Kansas City and settled in Smithville, where they could be closer to assist their aging parents.

Joan loved the beauty of the outdoors and the birds and animals, and traveling about the world and to islands in the So. Pacific. She enjoyed sports and was an avid tennis player and also loved golf.  She and Chuck are both longtime “Red Coaters” with the Kansas City Chiefs having received their red coats from Lamar Hunt and Coach Hank Stram; their daughter Sherri, was a Chiefs Cheer Leader. Joan is a member of the LDS Church.

She is survived by her husband Chuck of the home, a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri and Jim Scadlock of So. Jordan, Utah, a son Scott, of KC North, a sister, Mrs. Margaret Willis and her husband Don, of Gladstone, five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, February 10, 2015 from 5-8 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. Funeral service and interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Smithville School Robotics Team, SWAT #1806; 645 S. Commercial Ave. Smithville, MO 64089.
