Robert Daniel Benell, 95 of Sun City, AZ; formerly of Kansas City, MO died on Thursday, January 1, 2015. He was born in Surrey, ND on May 25, 1919.
Robert served in the Army Air Corp from 1941-1946 earning the rank of Major. He was a commercial Airline Captain working for Braniff International for more than 33 years; 10 of those years as a pilot trainer. He was very active in the Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) and a past member of the Elks Club.
He is survived by his son Robert David (Avalon) Benell of Surprise, AZ and Gunnison, CO. daughter Susan Diane (Kendall) Vickers of Nevada, MO. Grandchildren: Lisa Grego, Ryan Vickers, David Vickers, Great-grandchildren: Zachary, Dylan and Reese Grego, Skyler, Jayden and Jacob Vickers.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents D.E. and Helena (Wertz) Benell, his wife Mariette F. Benell who died in 1984 and wife Doris F. Benell who died in 2013; his siblings and other extended family members.
A memorial graveside service will be held at Terrace Park Cemetery; 801 NW 108th Street, (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek), Kansas City, at a later date. No memorials are suggested. Online condolences at www.TerraceParkFuneral.com
