Bernadean Gaulding

April 20, 1929 — October 31, 2019

Lois Bernadean Crawford Gaulding, 90, of Wentworth, South Dakota, (formerly of Kansas City, MO), died peacefully in her home on October 31, 2019.  “Dean” was born in Ozark County Missouri on April 20, 1929, to John W. and Mabel G. (Stutsman) Crawford. Bernadean attended high school in Gainesville and then worked at Johnson’s Store on the square in downtown Gainesville.  She met her future husband, Basil C. Gaulding, on a blind date. The two married on June 25, 1947, in Mountain Home, AR.

After their marriage, Basil and Bernadean moved to Kansas City, MO.  Dean was employed by Sunshine Biscuit Company. Later, she took a position with Bendix Corporation where she worked until she resigned to begin raising their family.

Dean and Basil raised two daughters, Lecia and Paula.  Bernadean was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Regarded as an excellent cook,  many people enjoyed delicious meals around her table.

The greatest joy in her life was her love for God and her deep faith in Christ.  Her family and friends could count on her to pray for any needs or concerns brought to her attention.  She always had an encouraging word or scripture to share.

Bernadean is survived by her dear husband of 72 years, Basil C. Gaulding, her children Lecia (Robert) Summerer and Paula (Ty) Land, her grandchildren Tim (Mallory) Summerer, Andrew Summerer, Abrienne Summerer, Corey Land, and Codey Land, and her three great-grandchildren Finnley, Milo, and Evie Summerer. She is also survived by her sister Johnalee Crawford Suter.

In addition to her parents, Bernadean was preceded in death by two of her siblings and various other beloved relatives.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 8 from 6-8pm at the Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street (Shoal Creek Pkwy), Kansas City, MO.  The funeral and graveside service will be on Saturday, November 9 at 1:30pm at the funeral home. Pastor A.D. Ellison, a long-time family friend, will be officiating.  A dinner to celebrate Bernadean’s life will be held afterwards at the facility.
