Bettie Durand

Bettie Jean Durand, 90, Kansas City, Missouri passed away June 28, 2018 at North Kansas City Hospital.  She was born September 27, 1927 in Memphis, Missouri to John William Alexander and Gladys Lucille (Keach) Alexander.

Bettie is survived by her three children, three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.  Son, Gary Durand and Daughter in-law Terry Cox Durand of Platte City;  Son,  Daryl Durand of Kansas City;  Daughter,  Sheri Durand Morelli and Son in-law John Morelli of Platte City;  Grandson, Dustin Durand and Wife Shelby Durand of Platte City and Great Grandchildren Blake and Chase;  Granddaughter, Emily Linnell Durand of Platte City and Great Grandchildren, Jacob, Will and Alex.  Granddaughter Michelle Harrison of Bonifay, FL, Great Grandchildren, Faith Harris and Cheyenne Jenson, great-great  Grandchildren  Gracie, Kolt  and Ethan.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, George David Durand.  Parents, John and Gladys Alexander, her Brother, William Ray Alexander, Sister, Leta June Alexander Kurtz and infant Sister, Lucille Alexander

Our Mother moved to Kansas City in September of 1945 at age 18 from Memphis, Missouri.  Her first job was with Hallmark.   She met our Dad in January 1946 and they married less than 6 months later on June 23, 1946.  In the early years she worked at Unity Village until 1950 and then became a stay-at home mother.  She was very creative.  Mom could make something out of nothing and fix anything.  She loved her pets and never turned away a stray.  In her later years, Mom loved growing tomatoes, tending to her flowers, watching the hummingbirds from her swing and waving at folks as they passed by.  Her family was everything to her and our happiness was her number one concern.

A visitation will be held Saturday July 7 from 1 pm to 2 pm at Terrace Park Funeral Home 801 NW 108th Street Kansas City, Missouri, where the funeral service will be held immediately following at 2 pm.  Interment at Terrace Park Cemetery.
