Charles Harper

August 31, 1943 — November 18, 2017

Charles Leonard Harper, 74, of Kansas City, MO, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 18, 2017 of natural causes. He was born August 31, 1943, to the late Charles L. Harper and Dorothy Blue.

Chuck graduated from Park Hill High School in 1961 where he was a tri-captain of the football team. He also played football at Southwest Missouri State University where he attended college. In 1965 Chuck joined the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed in both Italy and at NSA in Washington, D.C.. While in the service, Chuck attained the rank of Staff Sargent. Upon returning to civilian life, Chuck entered the data processing field where he worked for AT&T, Western Auto, First National Bank, Russell Stovers and Sprint where he ultimately retired after 16 years. Chuck married JoAnn Salisbury in 1971.;  they had a daughter, Laura, in 1973 and a son, Greg, in 1978. Chuck always enjoyed hunting with his lifelong friend, Bob Nuckols, and he loved mushroom hunting in the Spring. Football and baseball were his favorite sports whether he was playing them, watching them on TV or sharing memories of the games with friends. Chuck will be missed by his friends and family.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Gregory Robert Harper, granddaughters, Dakota McDowell and Chloe Harper, and grandson, Nash Harper and his ex-wife, JoAnn Harper. He is also survived by his sisters Cecelia (Phil) Troiani and Barbara (Jerry) Allwood and brother, Mike (Linda) Harper plus numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his daughter, Laura Williamson, and granddaughter, Emily Williamson.

Visitation will be Monday,  November 27, 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th St, (Shoal Creek Pkwy & 169 Hwy) KCMO. A Graveside service with Military Honors will be Tuesday, Nov 28, 2017 at  11:00 am at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Children's Mercy Hospital in Chuck's memory.
