Donna Walker

August 28, 1935 — January 1, 2019

At 12 a.m. on January 1, Donna Miller Walker, age 83, entered 2019. At 3:34 p.m. central time that same day, she entered the timeless time zone of eternity and went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ. Donna passed away peacefully at Brookdale College Square in Overland Park, Kansas, where she had been in hospice care after a long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. Although there are no words to express just how much Donna will be missed by family and friends, they are rejoicing with her as she is reunited with many loved ones, and most importantly, as she hears her Lord say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Born August 28, 1935, in Detroit, Donna was the daughter of Thala Thomas Stewart and Dulcie Sarah Chronister Stewart. Growing up in her grandfather’s church in Redford, Michigan, Donna was the church pianist when she met Daniel Joseph Miller in 1952, a visiting evangelist from Brantford, Ontario.

Donna and Daniel were married June 11, 1954, and traveled as evangelists for several years. Donna had a white and gold accordion and Daniel a gold Gibson guitar. They sang together and Daniel preached as they ministered in various churches across the Midwest and Canada. Later, Daniel pastored several churches and Donna served as church pianist and bookkeeper, as well as full-time mother to their two children, Stewart and Tricia.

Donna was full of life! She loved to laugh, play practical jokes and entertain in her home. She was a friend and mentor to countless women over the years, leaving many fond memories with those she touched. A woman of many talents, Donna was an expert seamstress. She made most of her own clothes as well as her daughter’s, constructed custom draperies galore, and even created her daughter’s elaborate wedding gown. Donna worked in retail sales (draperies, of course), served as a real estate agent, and held several secretarial positions, eventually rising to the position of Executive Secretary to one of the Vice Presidents of IBM.

In 1998, Donna and Daniel moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to care for her aging mother. For several years, Donna enjoyed working part time for the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches (formerly EMC). After Daniel passed away from ongoing heart issues in 2002, Donna retired, sold their home in Indiana, and moved to Missouri to be closer to her two children. She later met and married Willie B. Walker at her Kansas City church, Northland Cathedral. They enjoyed traveling, playing “Mexican Dominoes,” and sharing lots of love and laughter until his death in 2010.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents and by her two husbands. She is survived by her two children, Stewart Daniel Miller and Tricia Miller Melton; her two brothers, Jack Stewart and Gerald Stewart; seven grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren—ALL of whom she prays will follow Jesus as their Savior so they can be with her in heaven forever!

Services will be held in Missouri and then in Indiana, where Donna will be laid to rest next to her first husband, Daniel.

In Missouri, visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, at 10 a.m. at Family Worship Center, 926 S. Commercial Street, Smithville, Missouri, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the same location.

Washington Center Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at the same location. A graveside committal service will follow the funeral at Highland Park Cemetery, 2403 East Wallen Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
