Gwendolyn Schottel

September 2, 1953 — May 9, 2019

Gwendolyn Kay Schottel, 65, of Kansas City, MO passed away on May 9, 2019.

Gwen was born on September 2, 1953 to Harold and Sarah (Harness) Hutt in Maryville, MO. Gwen grew up in Liberty, MO. After graduating from high school, she continued her education in heating and cooling and worked at Superior Heating and Cooling for a number of years, but her most important job was as a homemaker, spoiling and spending as much time with her grandchildren as she possibly could. She married the love of her life, Kendall Schottel on June 21, 1991, and the two of them have enjoyed each other’s company; traveling, boating, fishing, and always putting family first, ever since. Gwen also thoroughly enjoyed shopping and could make a whole day of it, decorating with flowers, curling up in bed with her grandkids watching movies, and eating out at various restaurants even though she was an incredible cook, and loved vacationing - her way - which meant spending the first part of the trip taking a nice hot bath, enjoying a good book, and dining on a 12-pack of diet coke.

Gwen is preceded in death by her father, Harold Hutt, and sister, Diane Tanner. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband of 28 years, Ken; children, Ken (Michelle) Schottel, Natalie (Alex) Myers, Derrick (Leslie) Schottel, and Nicole Schafer; grandchildren, Shelby, Kyle, Caleb, Matthew, Julian, Tyler, Sam, Darienne, Sean, Olivia, Noah, and Ashden; numerous extended family, friends, and her beloved cats, Minnie Mouse, Nikki, and Kit Kat.

A visitation will be held on Monday, May 13th from 6-8pm at Clay County Christian Church, in Liberty, MO. A celebration of Gwen’s life will at the church on Tuesday, May 14th at 10:00am, with burial to follow at Terrace Park Cemetery in Kansas City, MO. In honor of her hard fought battle, contributions may be made to American Cancer Society – Pancreatic Cancer.
