Hubert Nelson

Hubert Greene Nelson, 75, of Gladstone, Missouri, passed away Friday, November 24, 2017, surrounded by family. Hubert was born July 15, 1942 to John and Winomia (McGinnis) Nelson, in Richmond, Missouri. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1960. On January 16, 1965 he joined the US Navy, where he served during the Vietnam War. He married Bonnie Shields on June 16, 1967 in Rayville, Missouri. Hubert worked for Coast to Coast for many years until they closed. He then went to work for the Grainger Distribution Center in the shipping and receiving department until he retired in 2004. In his free time he enjoyed playing softball and bowling. He was an avid football and baseball fan, no matter if it was college or NFL. He also loved deer hunting and spending time with family. He will always be remembered for having a big heart, and willing to help and give to anyone. He helped build and was a deacon of the Gladstone Baptist Church.

Hubert was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers; George Wesley and Paul Wayne Nelson, and a sister Deanna May Nelson.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, two sons; Daniel Nelson of Kansas City, MO and Carl (Jeanie) Benton of Gladstone, MO, two grandsons; Jaden Nelson and Travis Benton. He is also survived by 4 brothers; John (Carol)Nelson, Jim Nelson, Steve Nelson, and Phil (Joanne) Nelson, two sisters; Nadine (Arthur) Horn and Ramona (Jari) Saavalainen, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Friday, December 1, 2017 at 10 AM with Funeral Services immediately following at 11 AM at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. Burial to follow in Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions go to Crossroads Hospice. Share online condolences at TerraceParkFuneral.com.
