Marvin Lee Shelby, 88, formerly of Liberty, Mo, passed away on August 19, 2019 at Garden Village in Kansas City, Mo. Marvin was born April 5, 1931, in Lawson, Mo, to Harold and Hazel (Barnes) Shelby. He attended Liberty High School.
Before his retirement, Marvin owned and operated a couple gas & service stations in the Kansas City area. He was always able and willing to tow and fix his clients vehicles with a cigarette in hand and smile on his face. He was devoted to his dogs over the years, as they always held a fond space in his heart and on his lap. Marvin enjoyed walking his dog(s), taking the pontoon boat out on Raintree Lake, tinkering and fixing almost everything, spending time with grand children and holding garage sales.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Jr.; sisters Louise, Kathyrn and Doris Shelby; his son Richard Shelby Lane, his second wife Emma Berneal Shelby and step-daughter Bobbie Overly; his third wife Patricia Louise Shelby. Survivors include daughter Connie Shelby, born to Marvin and his first wife Joann Lane Warila of California. Also surviving are his friends, Dana Wilson and Dale and Angie Borgedalen who went above and beyond the duty of any friend assisting and caring for him in his later years. Also surviving are step grandsons Thomas and Will Overly and step great-grandsons Micah and Lucas Overly.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am on August 22, 2019 at Terrace Park, 801 NW 108th St. Kansas City, Mo. In lieu of flowers, Marvin would appreciate donations to the Liberty Dog Park (Liberty Parks and Rec Foundation), the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation- Kansas City chapter or any animal charity of your choice.
