Oscar Davidson

September 16, 1927 — December 22, 2019

Oscar Eugene Davidson, 92, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away peacefully Sunday morning, December 22nd in Independence, Missouri.

“Oscar” or more often called “Gene” in his younger years, was born September 16, 1927 on the Davidson family farm in Sarcoxie, Missouri area.  He was the eleventh child and named after his father William Oscar Davidson - all of his siblings ranging from 10 years to 25 years older. At the age of seven years, Gene, along with his parents, moved to the Kansas City area where most of his adult siblings had previously relocated to find work and raise their own growing families.  The large Davidson family, as well as his Christian faith, was the cornerstone for Gene throughout his life.

After graduating from East High School in 1945, Gene enlisted in the US Army.  He was deployed to the south Pacific and was trained as a draftsman. Upon his discharge in 1947, he returned to Kansas City where he met his future wife, Etheleen Medlen, while attending Perry Street Church of God.  Gene and Etheleen married November 6, 1950 and raised their family in the Gladstone area of Kansas City. They were always thankful for their blessings and healthy lives throughout their 69 year marriage.

Gene was a loyal son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He was employed by the US Postal Service for more than 30 years, while balancing various part-time jobs to provide the needs of his family.  Disciplined work ethic came first, however he and Etheleen managed to save enough for annual vacations and for those cherished weekend camping trips.  He enjoyed gardening along with ongoing home renovation projects from basement conversions to room additions. He was always there supporting Etheleen on her many related projects as well.  Gene was also active in their church over the years - including a start-up Church of God in Gladstone.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, William Oscar and Rebecca Mae (Bender) Davidson, along with each of his siblings, their spouses, and many of his dear nieces and nephews that he grew up with.  He is survived by his wife; three children: daughter Marlene Story and husband Bob, son Merle Davidson and wife Nancy, and son Neal Davidson; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, along with many loved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 29th, from 2pm to 4pm at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street, KCMO, where the service and a celebration of his life will be held on Monday, December 30th, at 10am. Burial with military honors to follow at Terrace Park Cemetery.
