Roberta Elder

June 16, 1925 — June 27, 2019

Roberta N. Elder, 94, of Kansas City, MO, passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 27, 2019. She was born in Oregon, MO to the late Robert and Florence (Dorsel) Noellsch on June 16, 1925.

Roberta graduated from Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1946.  After graduation she moved to St. Louis, MO, and worked at Barnes Hospital while completing Post Graduate Operating Room coursework. In 1951 she moved to San Antonio, TX, and worked as an Operating Room Supervisor at Nix Hospital. While there she met a young Air Force Pilot, First Lieutenant Roland Elder, and on August 10, 1952 they were married.

Roberta and Roland were married for 57 years and raised four daughters together. They were members of the Pistols and Petticoats Square Dance Club for 24 years where they made lifelong friends. Along with Roland, Roberta enjoyed traveling, as they visited every state in the US and every continent. Roberta was a great cook and avid gardener, spending hours canning and preserving her goods to provide for her family. She enjoyed playing Pinochle, Marbles, Dominoes, and was an Uno card shark. Roberta also looked forward to dinning out with friends with the Wednesday Night Gormay Club. She will always be remembered as an extremely organized person who, more than anything, loved her family and was always a support to them.

Roberta is survived by her daughters Becky Elder, Carol Elder, Christine (Jonny) Elder-Langston and Cindy (Allan) Hedrick. Grandchildren Graham (Whitney) McCaulley, Will (Crystal) McCaulley, Anna McCaulley, Wynter Kasch, Layton Kasch, Nathaniel (Lilly) Langston, Jonathan Langston, Megan Hedrick, Andrew Hedrick. Step-Granddaughter Michelle McCaulley. Great-grandchildren Jill, Laney, Lydia and William McCaulley. Step-Great-grandchildren, Steven (Jessica), Alan Reifsteck, Larry Temares. Step Great-great-granddaughter Zuri. She is also survived by her sister Louise Schaaf and her nieces and nephews. And her faithful feline companion, Gus-Gus.

In addition to her parents, Roberta is preceded in death by her husband Roland.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 2, 2019, from 10:30-12 PM with Funeral Service at 12 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home 801 NW 108th St. Kansas City, MO; she will be laid to rest next to her husband Roland at Terrace Park Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association , (act.alz.org); or the charity of your choice.
