Letha Lorene Koontz, 78 , of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Friday, August 18, 2017, at her home, after a six year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Letha was born November 28, 1938, to Emmett and Lucy (Pulliam) Nelson, in Adrian, MO. She graduated from Center High School. She married Jack Koontz, March 31, 1956 in Biloxi, Mississippi. After Jack retired, the couple purchased a travel trailer and traveled about the country to different state parks, and spent time sitting around the campfire. Letha had a passion for cooking and having her family over. She loved being able to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her favorite saying was “I don’t like to sweat”, which became a family joke. In her free time she enjoyed reading books. Usually getting several each time she visited the library in Riverside, MO.
She is preceded in death by both parents, two sisters; Rose Adkins and Earlene Granville, and a brother Delmer L. Nelson
She is survived by her husband of 61 years. Her son, Tom Koontz (Kendra) of Lee’s Summit, MO, daughter, Karen Koontz of Kansas City, MO, three grandchildren; Chris Koontz, Angela McMahon, and Cara Kitch, and one great grandson; Hagen MCMahon, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, August 24, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home; 801 NW 108th St. (169 Hwy & Shoal Creek) Kansas City, MO. Private inurnment to follow in Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requests that memorial contributions go to Children's Mercy Hospital.
