Arvilla Maples

Arvilla Lee Maples, 87, of Smithville, MO passed away on June 18th, 2021.  Born on December 12th, 1933, Grandma was the only child born to Hershel and Maxine Shirkey.  Growing up in Reed Springs, Missouri her parents owned the town general store and Grandma spent her days by her mother’s side whether it be sewing or cooking.  At 16 years old Grandma married her lifetime love, Bill Maples, on July 10th, 1950.  From this marriage, they had three children: Dwayne, Shon, and Shannon.  As a natural-born caretaker, Grandma spent her time keeping up with three wild boys and the house while Bill was away working.  Grandma was known for many of her loves including cooking, flowers, and shopping.  Many have had the pleasure of trying her signature dishes such as potato salad, vegetable soup, or tuna salad.  Well known for her warm heart and always open kitchen, Arvilla was willing to give her time to anybody who had the pleasure of knowing her.  Showing endless generosity, anyone could turn to Grandma in a time of need as many did.  Walking up to Grandma’s house it came as no surprise to anyone to see flowers in full bloom all year round. Grandma was always dressed in her best and many of us have great memories of shopping days by her side.  Arvilla’s devotion to loving her family is beyond anything words can describe.  Bill and Arvilla though two very different people, shared one soul.  Their dedication to each other, their children, and grandchildren is envied by all.  Arvilla is preceded in death by her parents; son, Billy Dwayne Maples, and true love Bill Maples.  Grandma will be greatly missed by her children, Shannon and Shon; grandchildren Billy and Rachel, and many extended family and friends.  Services will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Wednesday, June 23rd, 2021 at 10 a.m.
