Asher was born on February 11, 1925 to Asher Schanck and Nellie Bennett in Monmouth County, New Jersey. Growing up on a dairy farm during the Great Depression made life very difficult but education was always very important to him. At the young age of 16 he graduated from Red Bank High School and enrolled in an Engineer Defense Training course offered by the Engineering Department at Rutgers University at New Brunswick, New Jersey. After completing his education at Rutgers, he moved back home and began his involvement in the agriculture and livestock industry, which led him to move to Iowa, where he worked as a herdsman for cattle ranchers. Asher met and married the love of his life, Millie, and they were married 1950. Asher continued working in ranch management and his jobs took them all over the United States. When Asher wasn't hard at work he enjoyed woodcarving, traveling, and spending time with family. and friends. Asher will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Millie daughters, Beth and Sue; his grandchildren; and many other extended family and friends.
