Bobby Joe Baxter

June 11, 1933 — February 20, 2023

Kansas City

Bobby Joe Baxter, 89, of Kansas City, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2023. He was born in Hale, Missouri on June 11, 1933, to the late Edward and Ethel (Williams) Baxter.

Bobby was a loving family man and an exceptionally hard worker who preferred spending time at home visiting with family and friends. Throughout his working career, he held a plethora of jobs, most notably working at Butler Manufacturing for 44 years, and operating his own mowing business for 15 years. Bobby would take any opportunity to tell someone a story and could regale them with vivid details of the past. He most enjoyed being outside riding motorcycles, boating and water skiing, growing his vegetable and flower gardens, raising a variety of animals, and fixing anything and everything. Bobby would have said his greatest accomplishment was marrying the love of his life, Minnie Jewel, and leading his family with love and by his life example.

Those left to cherish his memory are his five children; Kay McPheeters and husband Eugene; David Baxter and wife Carole; Danny Baxter and wife Vicki; Tim Baxter; Pam Shoup and husband Walter. He also leaves behind ten grandchildren: Julie, Michael, Kristine, Crystal, Jessica, Lauren, Sarah, Lindsay, Anna; Avery, thirteen great-grandchildren: Joey, Skylar, Kruise; Elliott, Everett; Ben, Josh, Jacob, Nate; Claire, David, Daniel; Sydney as well as one great-great-granddaughter: Reyla. He is also survived by his five sisters: Betty, Phyllis, Mary, Sharon, and Barbara, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He was loved as greatly as he loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Bobby is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Jewel, who died in 2017; and his brother Ronnie Baxter.
