With incredible sadness the family of Carlos Tomas “Tommy” Reyes of Platte City, Missouri shares the news of his passing on Monday, February 27, 2023 at the age of 70 years young after facing many health concerns.
Carlos will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Judy; stepsons: Scott (Susanne), and Mark (Hallie); grandchildren: Lane, Anna, Cody, Alli, Chance (Meghan), and Kate; nephew: Danny (Wendy); niece: Tina; grandnieces: Ashley, Olivia, and Sophia; grandnephews: Tommy and Drake; godsons: John Jr. “Porge” and Little Ricky; many extended family members, “favorite cousins,” and lifelong friends. He will also be missed by his friends and colleagues from Trans World Airlines (TWA) and Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCS). He is survived by a sister, Martha.
Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Danny Sr. and Lupe; brother, Danny Jr.; and cherished family pets: Lady, Pepper, and Sugar.
Carlos was a lifetime resident of the Kansas City area. When he wasn’t keeping his big brother, Danny, and their best friend, John, out of trouble, Carlos attended DeLaSalle and earned a general education degree. He served honorably in the United States Navy completing training as an Aviation Maintenance Administrationman. Carlos went on to study computer science, a field he enjoyed and worked in his entire career. While working at TWA, Carlos met the love of his life. Feeling lucky in love, Carlos & Judy eloped to Las Vegas and they recently celebrated their coral anniversary. After 25 years of dedicated work to TWA, Carlos continued his career with KCS where he officially retired, at long last, after 13 years.
Carlos never met a stranger. Once he knew you, you became su familia. If he had it, and you needed it, it was yours. No questions asked, just sign an I.O.U. He absolutely loved sweets and positively hated onions. Not usually one to imbibe, Carlos could tie one on and always offered to crack a cold one with visitors. Ever practical and thorough, Carlos maintained an extensive honey-do list and comprehensive set of tools. Anyone need a hammer? He has at least a dozen, some have never even been used. Carlos was an informed consumer and avid bargain shopper. He could tell you all about the latest & greatest, and the best deals - new, used, or otherwise. If there was a frequent shopper program for Craigslist and eBay, Carlos would have been a founding member. Judy is fortunate, pun intended, Carlos was not on facebook or he would have been wheeling & dealing on the local marketplace. Carlos liked to travel. He and Judy went “Up, Up, and Away with TWA” to destinations all over the United States to see sights and visit friends, none more cherished than vacationing together in Hawaii.
A private family goodbye will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023 from 3-4:00 PM at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street, Kansas City, Missouri, 64155. A memorial service and celebración de la vida will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made in Carlos’ name to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, Virginia, 22116-7023.
