Obituary

Charles Wade Comstock, 87, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026.

Charles was born on December 21, 1938, in Randolph County, Missouri. He was the second oldest born to Charles Levi Comstock and Wilma Comstock. Before starting school, his family relocated to the Kansas City area, where he was raised. He graduated from Manuel High School near Westport and, after graduation, briefly worked alongside his father before answering the call to serve his country.

Charles proudly served in the United States Air Force, with assignments in Japan, South Dakota, and Montana. During his military service, he also had the opportunity to travel throughout Southeast Asia, including visits to Cambodia and Vietnam. Following his honorable military service, Charles joined the Kansas City Police Department before beginning a long and successful career in the trucking industry.

Charles was a natural leader, coaching his son's little league baseball team and dedicating 25 years to the Scouts of America. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and became a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say; an achievement that he helped his sons and family achieve as well.

Charles had a passion for travel and adventure. He especially enjoyed visiting national parks and taking camping trips. An avid gardener, Charles took great pride in growing vegetables in his impressive garden. Known for his generous heart, he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Above all, he was a man of deep and abiding faith. He found strength, purpose, and comfort in his faith throughout his life and was an active supporter of his church community.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn Comstock; his children, Chuck (Jeff Greek) Comstock, Burt Comstock, Darlene (Russell) Carter, John Padilla, Brenda Cochran, Michelle Chapman, Tony (Jennifer) Padilla, and Richard Padilla; his grandchildren, Danielle Helners, Ramon Padilla, and Mike Padilla; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren; foster children; siblings, Wanda McGee and Ed (Barbara) Comstock; nieces and nephews, Ron McGee, Don McGee, Willie McCune, Tom Comstock, Bill Comstock, Robin Roitz, and Carol Ann Thomas; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Levi and Wilma Comstock; his stepson, Phillip Padilla; and his siblings, Beverly Peterson, Virginia Adams, and Thomas Comstock.

Visitation will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home on Monday, June 15, 2026, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service with military honors will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a veteran's organization of the donor's choice or to Northland Cathedral Church.
