Obituary

Daniel "Tappy" Meyer, born on September 15, 1967, passed away on August 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by service, devotion, and a profoundly positive spirit.

A lifetime resident of Kansas City, Dan graduated from Oak Park High School before dedicating his career to the Kansas City Police Department. Over the course of 26 years, Dan served with distinction as a Master Patrolman. His dedication was evident through his varied roles within the department—whether in the helicopter unit or serving as a tactical officer in the street narcotics unit. Colleagues remember him as a person of utmost integrity, someone who approached every duty with pride and the heart of a true servant. Dan’s steadfast commitment and reliability made him a respected presence, liked by all who served alongside him. Dan also served his country in the United States Army for 4 years and was a proud and patriotic man.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dan’s personal life was marked by warmth, humor, and deep relationships. His ten years alongside Jill were enriched by the arrival of their two children, Amelia and Carson. As a father, Dan was known for his patience and unwavering support of his children, always present, encouraging, and nurturing.

Dan’s sense of humor was infectious and endeared him to friends and family alike. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures: cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs, spending peaceful hours fishing and hunting, perfecting the art of grilling and smoking meats, and also had a love for music.

Dan is preceded in death by his precious daughter Amelia Meyer; his mother, Janie Pickard; and grandfather, Delbert Meyer.

He is survived by his son, Carson Meyer; Father, Wick Pickard; mother of his children, Jill Meyer; sisters, Sandra Meyer, and Patricia Svoboda; as well as many other nieces, nephews and family members, and dear friends.

Friends, family, and former colleagues will gather to remember Dan’s life and legacy on August 14th. Visitation will be held at Northland Cathedral, 101 NW 99th St., Kansas City, MO 64155, beginning at 10:00 AM, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 AM at the same location.
