Darlene H. (Wohlert) Muhs, age 92, passed away on June 29, 2026.

Darlene was born on July 11, 1933, in Sutherland, O'Brien County, Iowa, to John and Effie (Otte) Wohlert. She was the second oldest of five children and remained proud of her country upbringing throughout her life. She often shared fond stories of riding her pony to school and attending a one-room schoolhouse through the eighth grade. Although her formal education ended there, her love of learning never faded. She embraced life with enthusiasm, humor, and an adventurous spirit that stayed with her to the very end.

On May 23, 1952, Darlene married the love of her life, Jackie "Jack" Muhs. Together they shared 73 wonderful years of marriage built on love, laughter, and inseparable companionship. They loved dancing together, fishing golfing, and spending time enjoying their daily routine of finding the best happy hours. One of Darlene's proudest golfing accomplishments was making a hole-in-one.

Darlene had a wonderful sense of humor and cherished every moment spent with her family. She was a talented and creative woman who found joy in crocheting, Artex painting, decoupage, and refinishing furniture. She also treasured the many friendships she formed through her card club and other social groups.

She and Jack especially enjoyed playing gin rummy together, sharing many spirited games over the years. A devoted sports fan, Darlene loved following her favorite teams and rarely missed the chance to cheer them on. She also looked forward to playing the weekly lottery, delighting in the occasional modest win that brought an extra smile to her face.

Family was the center of Darlene's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother sister and aunt. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack Muhs; her son, Kevin Muhs; an infant daughter; her parents, John and Effie Wohlert; and her brothers, Delbert, Don, and Dan Wohlert. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Sherri (Bill) Maddox; her son, Kent (Anita) Muhs; her grandchildren, Heather (Matt) Sebel, Travis (Nikki) Maddox, Austin Muhs, Logan (Melissa) Muhs, Kara (Aidan) Coiner, and Joel (Alexis) Muhs; seven great-grandchildren; and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A private family gathering will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to some of Darlene's favorite charities, American Cancer Society or City Union Mission, or a charity of your choosing.
