Delbert W. Frisbie
August 28, 1932 - January 4, 2021
Delbert Frisbie affectionately known as Mickey to family and friends, 88 of Kansas City, Mo, passed away Monday, January 4th, 2021.
Mickey was born on August 28, 1932 in Sheldon, Mo. to Delbert Raymond and Crystal Florence (Adams) Frisbie. He graduated from Manual High School and attended classes at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
He was united in marriage to Peggy Hudson on November 17, 1952. The day after marriage he received his draft notice. He proudly served in the US Army and was deployed in the Korean War as part of the 8218 Engineer Topographic Detachment as a photographer. In 2016, he participated in a Heartland Honor Flight to Washington DC honoring heroes who served in war.
Before and after the war, he worked as a tool and die maker. He spent nearly 30 years at Kansas City Power and Light working his way up to Superintendent of Maintenance, overseeing boiler overhauls for all KCP&L power generating stations.
Mickey was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Billie Martino, Gina Haas, June Connick, and Sherry Mitchell. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Peggy, and one brother, Doug Frisbie. He is also survived by his four children, their spouses and 18 grandchildren: Mike and Cynthia Frisbie (Michael, Mary, Joshua, Katherine, and Garrett), Debbie and John Shumate (Elizabeth, Matt, Nick, Jodie, Seth, Lacy, and Chelsea), Clay and Sally Frisbie (Janie, Cally, Cassi, and Grant), and Chris and Karen Frisbie (Jacob and Ethan). He is also survived by many great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews.
Mickey was a member of Good Shepherd Methodist Church in Gladstone, Mo. He had been an active member of the United Methodist Church since 1964, and a lay speaker since 2003. He served the church faithfully in many capacities and his beautiful bass voice could be heard in the choir for many years.
Mickey was a member of the American Legion, The Elks Club, The Sons of the American Revolution, and honor guard of the VFW. He was a Mason for over fifty years, Scoutmaster in the Boy’s Scouts, and Charter President of the Sunset Optimist Club of Clinton, MO.
Mickey spent most of his life in the Kansas City area. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a follower of Christ, a dutiful and loving father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be greatly missed.
Public visitation will be on Friday, January 15 from 1-2pm with a private, family only funeral service following. The funeral service will be live streamed at the link below.
