Doctor Steve B. Cain D.D.S., M.S.

Doctor Steve B. Cain D.D.S., M.S., a devoted husband, Dad, and Papa, beloved orthodontist, with a compassionate and creative soul, passed away on November 4, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on November 27, 1937, Steve's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, service, and charm that touched everyone he encountered.

For over 50 years, Steve was a proud member of the Missouri Dental Association. He practiced as an orthodontist with licenses and offices across several states, allowing him to impart his knowledge and skills to a myriad of communities. Known for his deep compassion and integrity, he worked tirelessly to assist those with orthodontic needs, prioritizing the well-being of his patients over profits. His favorite part of being an orthodontist was two fold; creating smiles and making people smile.

Gifts extended beyond dentistry; Steve was a true jack of all trades. His creativity shone brightly through his various endeavors, including house projects, songwriting, patented inventions, and daily Dad jokes. Steve's personal pursuits were also marked by an adventurous and curious spirit. His profound love for knowledge began with his education at the University of New Mexico, where he completed his undergraduate studies in pre-med. He then earned his Masters and Doctor of Dental Surgery at UMKC. He stayed curious throughout his life and embraced continuing education, imparting the wisdom that if there is a question there is also always an answer. He greeted challenges with the same curiosity that led him to have one heck of a life.

Steve was cherished for his charming personality and protective nature. To his family and friends, he was a beacon of strength. His presence brought comfort, love, and warmth, leaving indelible impressions in the hearts of those who knew him. He embodied the philosophy that when you have more than you need, build a bigger table - not a higher fence. Everyone was welcome at Steve’s table.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Alvernon Cain; as well as his loving wife, Vicky Cain. He will be remembered in love by his children Sara (Kurt) Dorrian, Emily (Chris) Bornheimer, Bradley Cain, and Bethany Cain; grandchildren: Rylee, Emma, Brinley, Ella; and nephews: Jeff and Steven Walterschied; sister Jerre Waterscheid; and by all the people who have a “Steve Cain Smile” or smiled because of Steve Cain.
