Obituary

Don Dreher, 97, passed away on September 4, 2026.

Don was born on November 18, 1928, to Jim and Cleora Dreher in Graham, Missouri. His family later moved to Parnell, Missouri, where he grew up. In the early 1950s, his family relocated to the Kansas City area. It was there that Don married Betty Slayden. Together, they built a life and proudly raised their son, J.D. Betty passed away in 1986, yet she remained the great love of his life.

Don proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Following his military service, he built a long career with Ford Motor Company, where he spent 30 years painting vehicles. After retiring, Don remained loyal to Ford vehicles.

Don was an avid bowler and, on a few occasions, came remarkably close to achieving a perfect game. He was a devoted Kansas City sports fan who loved cheering on the Chiefs and Royals. For 43 years, he faithfully watched or listened to every Royals game. In 2014, he had the unforgettable opportunity to attend a World Series game and cheer for his beloved Royals in person. Don also had a love for travel and set a goal of visiting all 50 states, an accomplishment he was proud to achieve.

Above all, Don was a family man and proud grandfather. He rarely missed a softball game, dance recital, or choir concert, always showing up to support and cheer on those he loved. He was especially proud to become a great-grandfather, a title he wore with great joy.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Dreher, and daughter-in-law, Terri Dreher.

Don will be fondly remembered by his son, J.D. Dreher; granddaughters, Amber (John) Buckley and Krystal (Drew) Pittenger; great-grandson, James Pittenger; and other family and friends who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held Monday, September 14, 2026, at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. and a graveside service with military honors.
