Donald Lee
Garrett
July 17, 1938 – June 6, 2026
Donald Lee Garrett, 87, passed away on June 6, 2026. He was born on July 17, 1938, in St. Joseph, Missouri, where he spent his childhood and formative years.
Donald was the son of Woody and Dorothy Garrett. After graduating from high school, he continued his education by attending the University of Missouri (Mizzou) as well as junior college studies. He also briefly served his country in the United States Army Reserve.
Donald later moved to Eldon, Missouri, where he met his late wife, Janice. Together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and community. They were blessed with one son, Michael, who brought great pride and joy to his life.
Throughout his career, Donald earned the respect of colleagues and customers alike through his work in banking. Even after his retirement, he continued to serve on the board of Citizens Bank well into his early eighties.
Donald had a sharp mind and a natural talent for financial stewardship. He believed in the value of saving and planning for the future, lessons he quietly demonstrated throughout his life. He also enjoyed the challenge and camaraderie of blackjack and poker, games that appealed to his strategic thinking and quick wit.
More than any accomplishment, Donald will be remembered as a man of character. He was respected for his honesty, integrity, and the steady example he set for those around him. His wisdom, kindness, and quiet strength left a lasting impression on family, friends, and all who knew him.
Donald’s legacy lives on through his son, Michael (insert wife's name) Garrett; grandchildren, Jillian Garrett, Noah Garrett, Lindsay Richardson, and Nicholas Bergman; great grandchildren, Jack and Ruby Richardson.
A small graveside service, where all friends and family are welcome, will be held on Saturday, June 13th at 1:00pm at Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to NorthCare Hospice.
