Donald "Don" Calvert

Donald “Don” Eugene Calvert, 91, of Kansas City, MO passed away on October 11, 2020.

Don was born on August 18, 1929 to William and Julia (Murphy) Calvert in Independence, MO. He married Shirley Brown on January 13, 1951. Two children were born of this marriage. Don is a US Veteran, having served in the Army from 1951 to 1953. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he went to work at Cargill Grain Elevator. Don took his talents and became a finish carpenter. After spending a few years building numerous houses, he was offered a job as an elevator mechanic. He went to elevator school in Moline, Illinois. This schooling gave him a 30-year career with Montgomery Elevator before retiring in 1990.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: Ruby, Bill, Frances, John, (Don) Reece, Ruth, and Roger.

He leaves his wife of 69 years, Shirley L. (Brown) Calvert; daughters, Brenda Reel and Sherryln (Paul) Garcia; grandchildren, Brian (Kristen) Reel, David Reel, Marissa (Eric) White, Jared (Nicole) Garcia; four great-grandchildren, Gabriel (Krista) Reel, Marcus Reel, Cole Garcia, and Carson Garcia; one great-great-granddaughter, Tessa Reel; and one great-great-grandson on the way, Jaxon Reel, who will be born in January. Don will be forever loved and greatly missed.

Funeral services will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home with visitation from 10 to 11 am, a funeral service will be held at 11 am all on Monday, October 19th with burial following at Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ascend Hospice.
