Obituary

Dorothy Jeanette Davis “Dotty”, 89 of Lathrop, Missouri, passed away in her home early Sunday morning, April 19th, 2026.

Dotty was a loving, caring, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She loved her extended family.

Dotty was born in Mendon, Missouri, on March 27th, 1937. She was raised on farms in Chariton County, Missouri. She married the love of her life, Donald Davis, on March 6th, 1954. They celebrated their 72nd anniversary this year. Dotty and Don both enjoyed playing pitch. Many afternoons and evenings were spent playing pitch with Don’s parents, Dotty’s sister, and her brother-in-law. Dotty raised four children and was a loving mother to them all. She enjoyed spoiling her grandkids, great-grandkids, and great-great-grandkids. She worked as a bookkeeper, a financial officer, and a tax preparer for many years after the kids started school. After they retired, they moved to the country, where they became master gardeners. Dotty enjoyed planning, planting, and harvesting her gardens. The family really enjoyed eating the results. Dotty loved helping people. It was hard to convince her to rest, even when she was tired. Don and Dotty started a puppet ministry that was loved and enjoyed by all who saw it. Many young people were involved during the 50+ years they led the ministry. Dotty and Don were very active at Gashland Baptist Church, then at the First Baptist Church in Plattsburg after moving. The one-word description most often used for Dotty was “sweet”. Dotty was a sweet lady and will be missed by all who knew her.

Dotty was preceded in death by her parents, Louis Shackleford and Anna Montgomery, her sister Lois, her half-brothers and half-sisters George, Byron, Marlys, Linda, Max, and Joan, her daughter-in-law Phylis, and her grandson Benjamin.

Dotty is survived by her husband, Donald. Her sisters-in-law, Eva and Rose. Her children: Roger (Judy), Rodney (Debbie), Ronald (Nueng), and Rhonda (Jim). Her former daughter-in-law, Claudia. Eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins. A large and extended family that she loved.

There will be a family gathering at 9:30 am. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am. Services at 11:00 am. All located at the First Baptist Church 501 W. Broadway St., Plattsburg, MO 64477.

The family suggests donations to the First Baptist Church Plattsburg Building Fund in memory of Dorothy Davis.

Dotty requested that the following be shared at her memorial service

Meet Me There

Remember me my children not with tears,

But with a loving smile.

Know that I have only left you

for a little while.
