Dwaine Elwin Folsom, 73, passed away on November 28, 2025.
Dwaine was born on March 28, 1952, in San Fernando, California, the second son born to Dayton and Dorothy Folsom. At 15, his family moved to Missouri, and settled in Kansas City. He graduated from Oak Park High School in 1970. Though he was far from California, he forever remained a devoted Oakland Raiders football fan. Dwaine began a 39 year career with the Kansas City Police Department in 1978, first serving as a motorcycle officer and later spending many years as a dedicated Reserve Sergeant, something that was always very meaningful to him. He also worked at ARMCO Steel for 10 years, was head of security at Dillard’s department store and spent 20 years working security at NKC Hospital. Known for his humor and love of a good laugh, Dwaine was quite the practical joker. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and camping. Remarkably, he continued to camp in a tent well into his 60’s, with Roaring River State Park in southern Missouri being his favorite place to enjoy nature and time with family. You would often find him spending free time enjoying his motorcycles and planning his next adventure. Dwaine never met a stranger and would always do anything for a friend, a quality which endeared him to many. Dwaine is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Daylen Folsom. He will be fondly remembered by his children, Karen (Mike) Franklin and Gary Folsom; grandchildren, Susan (Brody) Miller and Bentley Folsom; and many extended family and friends. A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Terrace Park Cemetery – Lakeside Chapel, followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Police Foundation of KC.
