Flossie F. Christner

August 21, 1928 — March 20, 2023

Flossie Fern (York) Christner, 94, of Mesa, Arizona formerly of Kansas City, Missouri, died peacefully at home with her son, Steven by her side on March 20, 2023. She was born on August 21, 1928, in Sharon Springs, Kansas to Earl and Lottie (Swartz) York.

Flossie graduated from Wallace County High School in 1946. Upon graduation, she worked as a cashier and pharmacy assistant until meeting her husband, George “Arnold” Christner and was married on     July 17, 1949. They were married for 67 years. They spent their beginning years traveling Kansas and Missouri in a trailer as George worked building grain elevators. They bought their first and only home in Kansas City North in 1964 where they raised their only son Steven. After he started elementary school, she entered the work force in 1970 for the North Kansas City School District. She worked at Eastgate Junior High in food service aka ‘the lunch ladies’ for 21 years and retired in 1991.

Upon retiring, Flossie was ready to travel. She went on numerous trips across the US and abroad to Canada, Nova Scotia, Mexico, Caribbean Islands, France and even Germany twice! Her favorite place was Branson, Missouri with her friends to see the variety shows. She enjoyed being active; going dancing at the Moose Lodge, playing cards, bunco and Bingo being her favorite game. She was an avid bowler to the age of 89 with several 200+ games!

She was blessed to live close to her granddaughters Heather and Melissa and supported all their activities as they grew up. Her longevity blessed her to see graduations, weddings and the birth of her two great-grandchildren Gavin and Etta. They were what put a sparkle in her eyes.

Flossie was admired and loved by many friends. She attended Winwood Baptist Church for over 50 years and Sunday luncheons after church were her favorite.

She is survived by her son Steven Christner (Sandra), granddaughters Heather Andrews (Colby) and Melissa Kimble (Brandon), great-grandchildren Gavin Andrews and Etta Kimble and nieces Sandra Walker and Sherry Holly-Reps. She was preceded in death by her husband George Arnold, parents and brother Willis York.

Visitation will be from 9-10 am on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street, Kansas City, MO 64155. Service will begin at 10 am and burial immediately follows.
