Obituary

Frances Jane Legault, 92, of Platte City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at her home on July 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Frances was born on October 19, 1933, in Hague, North Dakota, to John Fischer and Eugenia Irene (Schmaltz) Fischer. She was raised in North Dakota alongside her 10 siblings, where she developed the strong work ethic, unwavering faith, and deep love for family that would guide her throughout her life.

She met the love of her life, Marlin "Lee" Charles Legault, while he was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. Together they embraced the life of a military family, making homes at duty stations across the United States and in the Philippines while raising their growing family.

As the devoted mother of nine children, Frances poured her heart into caring for her family. A gifted seamstress, she lovingly made many of her children's clothes by hand. She was also a talented artist who enjoyed painting, playing the piano, and tending her garden, where she found both beauty and peace. In her younger years, she was a professional dancer with the USO and proudly performed as her husband Marlin's magician's assistant, delighting audiences with their act. In her quieter moments, she found great joy watching the birds outside her window and appreciating the simple beauty of each day.

Frances was a faithful member of Twelve Apostles Catholic Church in Platte City, Missouri, where she served on numerous committees over the years. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, and she lived it through service, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family and church community.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marlin C. Legault, and her children, Darrell, Sandy, David, and Doreen.

She is lovingly survived by her children, Darleen, Marlin D., Donald, Gregory, and Dawn (Dwayne); along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

A visitation and rosary will be held on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Twelve Apostles Catholic Church in Platte City, Missouri. Mass will immediately follow, with interment at Terrace Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.

Frances' greatest legacy was not only the beautiful things she created with her hands, but the love, faith, strength, and kindness she instilled in her family. She leaves behind generations who were blessed by her talents, inspired by her devotion, and forever grateful for the life she so generously shared. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
