Obituary

Glenda Ann Brookins (Hartley), 83, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2026, surrounded by care and love.

Born on July 14, 1942, in Washington County, Georgia, Glenda was raised in Milledgeville and carried those roots with her throughout her life. On January 20, 1959, she married Jimmy Lee Brookins, beginning a sixty-seven-year partnership defined by devotion, companionship, family, and shared adventure. They were best friends in the truest of sense—rarely apart, deeply intertwined, and always moving through life together.

Glenda had a sharp and nimble mind and was a whiz with all things numbers and mathematics. She earned her degree from San Antonio College, her talent for math led her to a career in accounting, including work at Marriott International’s corporate headquarters, and later with the Department of the Army Europe, from which she retired after years of dedicated service.

She found joy in collecting and curating the meaningful details of life. Owls lined her shelves, Polish pottery filled her kitchen, and trinkets from European travels told quiet stories of places she and Jimmy explored together. Her creativity showed itself through her hands, careful, patient, and precise. As an avid crocheter and accomplished cake decorator, always attentive to beauty and detail. She was deeply engaged with the world around her and was adamant about keeping up with the news, following current events with curiosity, consistency, and strong opinions.

Above all else, Glenda was the heart of her family. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother, and a cherished grandmother whose presence was steady, generous, and deeply felt. Her life was one of intelligence, creativity, loyalty, and love—quietly extraordinary in its constancy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oma P. Hartley and Zelma B. Hartley (Edgar), and several siblings and extended family members.

She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Brookins; her sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Becky Brookins and Jeffrey and Leslie Brookins; her grandchildren Caitlin, Shawn Riley, Lauren and Charlotte Brookins; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Glenda will be deeply missed and forever loved
