Helen Kerby

October 29, 1942 — February 3, 2022

Helen Marie Kerby passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was born on October 29, 1942 to the late Marius Olsen and Karen Christiansen. Her parents immigrated to the US from Denmark and settled in Washington, IA where Helen was born. She grew up in Chillicothe, MO where she graduated High School in 1960. Shortly thereafter Helen accepted a job with AT&T and moved to the Kansas City area where she raised her family and married to the love of her life of 48 years, Alvah Loren “Kerby”.

Helen was a woman made of strength. She was hardworking, often spending many hours at her job to support her family. She was proud to retire from AT&T at the young age of 47 and completed her years of employment as an office administrator for Platte County in 2004.

She was a faithful member of the Barry Christian Church and loved the Lord with all her heart.

Helen LOVED to travel, often visiting Arizona and Texas during the winters. In her free time, she enjoyed playing scrabble and working on jigsaw puzzles. She was a “Shop-a-holic”, if you’d mentioned you liked it, she was determined to buy it for you!

Family was a HUGE priority! Helen will be remembered for being a loving wife, mother, and a special Grammy! She loved the days at the lake on the pontoon boat and all of the family gatherings at Branson and Disneyland. She was loved by all who knew her and had extreme devotion to her grandchildren! A Grammy is who she was meant to be!!

Helen was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers: Leo and Robert Olsen; and niece: Tracy Schalich.

She is survived by her loving husband; two children: Mike (Debbie) McNeal and Shelly (Steve) Taylor; step daughter: Kim (Rick) Ronchetto; and grandchildren: Dylan, Madi, Brady, Courtney, and Scott; as well as numerous family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Barry Christian Church. Located at 1500 NW Barry Road, Kansas City, MO 64155.
