Irene Hevalow

July 29, 1934 — September 23, 2023

Irene Hevalow, a beloved member of the Victory Free Will Baptist Church in Kansas City, MO, has passed away at the age of 89. Born Irene McCollum on July 29, 1934, she was a lifelong resident of Clay County. She worked early in her marriage at the American Can Company, then became a stay-at-home mother. She reentered the work force in the late 70’s as a technician at Firestone Optics and worked there until her retirement in 1999. Irene’s warm and caring nature extended not only to her career but also to her family and community. She found solace and strength in her religious beliefs, which guided her through both joyful and challenging times.

Family was of utmost importance to Irene, and she shared a deep bond with her loved ones. Irene was married to Larry Hevalow for 38 years, before his passing in 1989. Together, they experienced a lifetime of love, support, and companionship. Irene leaves behind cherished memories in the hearts of their children: Pam and (Mike) Cain, Joyce (Ken) Halford, and Jim (Susan) Hevalow.

Aside from nurturing her family relationships, Irene sought opportunities to explore new horizons. She enjoyed traveling with groups from Gladstone Parks and Rec on numerous excursions abroad, particularly relishing trips to Europe. Her travels led her to expand her already extensive Christmas ornament collection, to include ornaments from all over Europe, Canada, Alaska and Hawaii. She never made a trip without returning with a treasured keepsake.

In addition to her three children and their spouses, Irene leaves behind her brother Roy McCollum. Though she has departed this world, she will forever be present in the lives of her grandchildren: Kim, Kathy, Ryan, Michael, and Brett; as well as great-grandchildren Brock, Kyle, Brynn, Logan, Oliver and Isla. Each one held a special place in Irene’s heart, bringing joy and happiness into her life.

Irene Hevalow will be remembered as a compassionate individual who lived her life with devotion, love, and kindness. Her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those lives she touched.

May she rest in eternal peace.
