James R. Sprang, a devoted husband, esteemed professional, and cherished friend, passed away on September 29, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on October 23, 1941, James lived a life rich in passion, perseverance, and love.

For 38 years, James dedicated himself to the aviation industry, working for TWA, American Airlines, and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM). He began in fleet service and, fueled by his determination and deep-seated passion for his work, advanced all the way to Washington D.C. at IAM. His commitment to his career was marked by excellence and an unwavering work ethic.

James was not just a man of work; he was also a devoted family man. He will be fondly remembered for the countless adventures he shared with his beloved wife. After his retirement, the two embarked on numerous road trips, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime. Their shared laughter and the joy of exploring the open road together are testaments to their enduring love.

Beyond his career and family, James had a zest for life that encompassed various hobbies and interests. He was an avid supporter of his local sports teams, proudly cheering for the Jayhawks, the Chiefs, and the Royals. He enjoyed participating in a bowling league, playing cards with friends, and was passionate about fast pitch softball, traveling alongside his TWA friends. In his later years, he embraced golfing, relishing each swing and the camaraderie it brought.

James served his country honorably as a Marine, a time that undoubtedly shaped his character and instilled in him a sense of pride and duty that lasted throughout his life. He maintained residences both in Maryland and in Sun City, Arizona, where he basked in the warmth of the winter sun, enjoying the tranquility of his surroundings.

His legacy is one of dedication, love, and profound friendship. He made an indelible impact on all who knew him, as a mentor, a confidant, and a source of inspiration. He leaves behind his companion, Dorthy Krieger, numerous friends and colleagues who admired him, and his spirit will forever resonate in their hearts.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; of 54 years who is in Heaven: brothers Larry, Bob, and Tommy Sprang; as well as his sister: Pat. He is survived in love by his children: Brenda Patterson, and Michael (Julie) Sprang; grandchildren: Jacob, Josh, Julian, Breia, Alisha, C.J., Kevin and Scotty; great grandchildren: Ashtine, Madalynn, Colson, Brody, Jude, and Theo; his brother: Edward "Butch" (Mary) Sprang; as well as many other family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on October 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to noon at the Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery in Kansas City, Missouri.

As we remember James R. Sprang, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, adventure, and a profound commitment to family and friends. His memory will continue to shine brightly in the lives he touched.
