Janelle Lea
Bode
Apr 12, 1962 — Jun 22, 2026
Janelle Lea Bode, 64, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Janelle was born on April 12, 1962, in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri, to Robert L. Dillard and Luella "Charmain" Dillard (Coy). She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
On December 31, 1979, when Janelle was 16, her love story with fellow schoolmate, Stephen R. Bode, began. They were married on May 19, 1984, and shared 42 wonderful years together filled with love, laughter, adventure, and devotion.
Janelle found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like her daily cup of coffee. She had a lifelong love of music, especially the songs of Elvis Presley and George Strait. While she enjoyed cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals, her true sports loyalties belonged to the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears. This was due to the fact that she was an avid collector of teddy bears. She also enjoyed sewing and creating crafts with friends. Janelle and Steve shared a passion for travel, exploring national and state parks throughout the United States. They especially treasured a recent Alaskan cruise together and enjoyed many camping adventures over the years.
The holidays brought Janelle tremendous happiness, with Christmas holding a special place in her heart. In 2018, she graduated from the International School of Santas and became a member of the International Brotherhood of Real Bearded Santas, proudly serving as Mrs. Claus. Using her remarkable sewing talents, she lovingly handcrafted both her own Mrs. Claus attire and Steve's Santa suit, bringing joy to countless children and families during the Christmas season. Above all else, Janelle's greatest love was her family. She treasured every moment spent with her children and adored her grandchildren, who brought immeasurable happiness to her life.
Janelle is lovingly survived by her husband, Stephen R. Bode; her daughter, Christina L. Fulks and husband Jason Fulks, along with their daughters, Sophia and Vivian; her son, Zachary Bode and wife Kailey Bode, along with their children, Kamden, Charlie, and Chase; her uncle, Alvin "Jack" Dillard; and her aunt, Sherlyn Kimsey, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
A Memorial Celebration of Janelle's life will be held Tuesday evening at Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church. A private family graveside service will take place at Terrace Park Cemetery.
Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made to Pine Ridge Presbyterian Church.
