Janice M. Schnack, 81, of Liberty, Missouri passed away on February 20, 2023.
Janice was born on May 9, 1941. She grew up in Joplin, Missouri with her parents Donna and Bud Millard, and sister, Joan. She married David Schnack on April 17, 1965 while living in Wichita, Kansas. They then lived in St Louis for a brief time before settling in the Kansas City area, where they raised their two children. Janice received her Master’s degree, and then continued her schooling receiving her degree as an Education Specialist. She spent nearly three decades teaching 7th grade Reading and Social Studies at Eastgate Middle School. Her impact not only reached the minds of her students, but she was also instrumental in helping her community. She encouraged her students to write letters and campaign against the closing of Penguin Park, which still stands as a prominent Northland landmark to this day. After she retired at the age of 55, she turned all of her focus towards her family, especially her grandchildren – helping run errands, attending their activities, and always being at their bedside when they were sick. Janice also enjoyed traveling, playing Bunko and puzzle games, and socializing with friends. She and David were longtime members of Hillside Christian Church and Liberty Christian Church.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents and husband. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her children, Karyn Langston and Jonathan (Cristina) Schnack; grandchildren, Spencer (Jennie) Langston, Lauren (Trevor) Fielden, Lillian Schnack, Iris Schnack and Detlef Schnack; great grandchildren, Xander Langston and Isla Fielden; sister, Joan Lawson; and many extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Thursday, February 23rd, with visitation beginning at 9:30am, service at 10:30am, followed by the graveside service.
