John Christopher Licklider, age 62, passed away on May 16, 2025. Born on July 14, 1962, in San Diego, California, to parents Joseph and Lucy Licklider, John’s life was marked by hard work, loyalty, and love for his family.
He spent his childhood in the close-knit community of Cuba, Missouri, where he formed lifelong memories and friendships. Shortly after high school, John moved to the Kansas City area, beginning what would become a long and dedicated career as a lineman. As a proud member of IBEW Local 53, he found purpose in his work and camaraderie among his fellow union members. Though his job often took him on the road, nothing meant more to him than coming home to his family.
It was through a mutual friend that John met the love of his life, Sharla. They were married on January 20, 1989 and were blessed with 26 years of marriage and three beloved daughters. Alongside them, John loved spending time outdoors—fishing, camping, and traveling.
A true fan at heart, John enjoyed cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and the St. Louis Cardinals. Known for his sharp wit and incredible sense of humor, he could always make those around him laugh, even in the toughest of times.
John will be remembered as a hardworking man, and a loving husband, father and son.
He is preceded in death by his, wife, Sharla; and father, Joseph. He''ll be deeply missed by his children, Brianna (Tanner) Tomac, Sadie Licklider, and Lauren (Daniel) Schmitz; grandchildren, Kennedie Allgaier, Brayden and Bryce Tomac, and Chesney Schmitz; mother, Lucy Licklider; sisters, Christina (Joe) Vaughn and Lisa (Greg) Glasscock; and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 27th, with visitation beginning at 12:00pm, followed by a funeral mass at 2:00pm. Plants and flowers are welcome, or contributions may be made to IBEW local 53. A graveside service will be held at the Licklider Cemetery in Cuba, Missouri at a later date.
