Julia Claire Boley

November 23, 1946 — August 19, 2025

Kansas City

Julia “Julie” Claire Boley, 78, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away on August 19, 2025 after living with Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Julie was born on November 23, 1946, in Royal Oak, Michigan, the third of four daughters, to Thomas and Inez “Marga” Simpson. Julie was later blessed when her step-father Harry Wipfel married her mother. Harry became a true father figure, cherished member of the family and played a pivotal role in shaping her life. Her family later moved to San Jose, California, where she attended school and graduated from Cupertino High School.

After graduation, Julie began her career with Trans World Airlines (TWA) as a flight attendant. She relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where a blind date introduced her to the love of her life, Burrel Boley, Jr. The two were married on March 15, 1969, in Brookfield, Missouri and together they were blessed with three children.

Julie took a reprieve from her career to spend time at home with her children during their early years, then rejoined the workforce to continue her career with TWA, serving as a flight safety instructor before later working in the retirement benefits department. Julie retired from American Airlines after TWA was absorbed during a buyout.

Outside of work, Julie embraced life to the fullest. She loved traveling, spending time with friends and family, attending Mizzou football games, painting, dancing, researching genealogy, doting on her grandchildren, and staying active in her canasta and book clubs. She enjoyed family game night, perfecting her green thumb, and creating cherished family traditions. Known for her creativity, she baked birthday cakes from scratch and crafted unique Halloween costumes for her children. She was a proud member of Clipped Wings, an organization for former TWA flight attendants, and was active in the “Save the Connie” project. Her caring spirit shone through in countless ways, especially in her devotion as caregiver to her mother-in-law and sister-in-law. She never missed the opportunity to reach out to friends, neighbors and loved ones with a card, letter or phone call to let them know she cared.

Julie is preceded in death by her father, Thomas Simpson, and mother and step-father, Harry and Marga Wipfel.

Julie will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband, Burrel Boley, Jr.; children, Burrel Boley, III “Trey” (Renee) Boley, Rebecca (Lance) Snodgrass, and Brock (Linzi) Boley; grandchildren, Jordan, Nicholas, Gavin, Reagan, and Barrett; her sisters Lois, Patricia and Beverly, and many beloved extended family and friends.
