Karen Kay Franklin

Karen Kay Franklin, 82, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026. She was born on July 30, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Floyd and Susie Clayburg.

Karen graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1961 and later earned her associate’s degree. She built a successful career working in airline industry, where her dedication, professionalism, and strong work ethic were appreciated by colleagues and friends alike.

Above all else, Karen was devoted to her family. She lovingly raised two daughters and was actively involved in their lives, serving as a PTA volunteer and Girl Scout leader. A woman of deep faith, Karen lived her life guided by compassion, kindness, and service to others.

Her grandchildren were the joy of her life. Following her retirement, she cherished the opportunity to care for her grandbabies, creating countless memories filled with love. Nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her family.

Karen enjoyed a full and active life. Her many hobbies included, playing bridge, bowling, tennis, golf, bocce ball, traveling, tending to her flowers, and feeding the birds that visited her yard. She was a social butterfly who never met a stranger and could brighten any room with her warmth, and wonderful sense of humor. Always impeccably dressed, Karen took pride in looking her best and was known for being "dressed to the nines" wherever she went.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Susie Clayburg.

She is survived by her daughters Kim Griffey (Zack); Jill Ashby (Denys), grandchildren; Chase Ashby, Kaylin Griffey, and Gavyn Griffey.

Karen will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her love of family, and her kind spirit. Her legacy lives on through her daughters, grandchildren, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she touched.

A celebration of life to honor Karen’s life will be announced at a later time.
