Larry Matthews

Larry Matthews, 79, of Kansas City, Mo, passed away August 31, 2021.  A memorial visitation will be held from 3-5pm on Friday, September 10, at Terrace Park Funeral Home.  Private interment will take place at Terrace Park Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.

Larry was born on November 30, 1941, in Excelsior Springs, Mo, to Okley Wilson and Velma Mae (Duncan) Matthews.  He was a graduate of Excelsior Springs High School.  Larry was an agent with American Family Insurance for many years and was very much admired by his clients, even after his retirement.  He was a talented artist who especially loved drawing with colored pencils and he also enjoyed playing golf.  Most of all, Larry was an amazing husband, father, and grandfather.  He will be dearly missed.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Dianne Dean.  He is survived by his loving wife, Johnnie, of 36 years; children:  Monte K. Matthews (wife, Kathy), Douglas B. Matthews (wife, Melissa), Katherine Ellis, and Jennifer Smith (husband, Dustin); grandchildren:  Duncan and Ethan Matthews, Taylor Kernstock, Drew and Sadie Matthews, Jesse Lewis and Ray Ellis, and Vance Smith; a sister, Gayle Smith (husband, Jim); and several nieces and nephews.
