Letha L. Jackson, 84, of Kansas City, passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2023. She was born December 24, 1938, in Maryville, Missouri to the late Earl and Margaret (Shannon) McClurg.

As the youngest of five children, Letha appreciated that she was always the center of attention. She graduated from Horace Mann High School in Maryville, and also from Northwest Missouri University in Maryville where she enjoyed cheering on Leland in his basketball career. She majored in education and was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. Letha and Leland were married on August 23, 1959, and were married for 59 years. They had 2 children, Michael and Lori. She began her teaching career in 1960, in the North Kansas City School district. Letha’s true passion was for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loyal friend to many. She loved planning and preparing for holidays, family events and taking trips with her family. Letha and Leland were no strangers to hard work, they owned and operated North Oak Pharmacy for 27 years. She was a long-time member of Hillside Christian Church and had many other volunteer activities.

Those left to cherish Letha’s memory are her son, Michael A. Jackson and wife Tracy; daughter, Lori A. Griffin and husband Tim; grandchildren, Katie Sheaffer and husband Andrew, Alexandra, Margaret and Zoe Jackson, Grace and Laura Adams, Amanda Carlo and husband Ben, Libby Starr and husband Kevin, and Sam Griffin and wife Emily; as well as six great-grandchildren, Henry and Jackson Sheaffer, Henry and Charlotte Carlo, Claire and Annie Starr. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to her parents, Letha is preceded in death by her husband Leland who died in 2019; brother Lloyd McClurg, Cleta Salyers, Ralph McClurg and W. Jean Stocks.

The family will have a private service and burial at Terrace Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ascend Hospice, 783 NE Anderson Lane Lee’s Summit, MO 64064.
