Linda Hopkins

May 26, 1940 — February 13, 2022

Linda Jean Hopkins, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 13, 2022 at the age of 81 in Kansas City, MO. She was born May 26, 1940 to the late Winifred (Winnie) Allen Griesel and Amos Conrad (Connie) Griesel in Kansas City, KS.

She received her B.A. in education and eventually earned her Master’s Degree from UMKC. She taught for 15 years in the North Kansas City School District and for many years in central Florida. She was a hard worker; she could type over a hundred words per minute and could spell any word in the dictionary. She had many jobs throughout her life beginning as a little girl selling doughnuts door to door to her neighbors. Other than teaching, she had many other jobs including the Corps of Engineers, Brunson Instrument Company, and until the age of 70 at Hugh’s and Butterworth’s Advertising Agency as an editor.

Linda had a great sense of humor and a fun loving spirit. She loved to live life big! She enjoyed parties and any kind of card game. She always loved a good pinochle game with her relatives. She prided herself on her beautiful garden at her home in Leesburg, Fl. It was living art that she created as her own oasis to share with friends and family. She was a member of the Newcomers Club, a line dancing group, she was very active with the Amvets, and participated in many card clubs. Linda enjoyed traveling, camping, the beach, sailing, and many adventures throughout her life. She was an excellent cook and was especially known for her delicious taco dinners. Every Sunday you could smell the wonderful aroma of her frying tortillas with love. Linda enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Linda was married to the late Jerry D. Hopkins her husband of 37 years. She is survived by her brother, Bill Griesel and sister, Janet Law (Dave), her two daughters: Kelly Marks (Chris) and Lori Curry (Jan), three grandchildren: Jessica Schloss (Tyler), Blake Lynn (Hailey), Brett Curry, and two great grandchildren: Ryder and Ava Schloss and other extended family and life long friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, February 17th at 11am.
