Lurlyne Smith

Elizabeth “Lurlyne” Smith, 72, of Kansas City, MO was promoted to her Heavenly Home on Friday, April 1, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.

Lurlyne Smith was born on May 10, 1949 in Monterey Park, California to James “Donald” and Nancy Jones. Her family moved to Kansas where she and her younger brother, James “Melvin” Jones were raised. She graduated from Lawrence Memorial High School and attended Evangel University.  Lurlyne spent 15 years as a Missionary with the Assemblies of God in both Brussels, Belgium with ICI (International Correspondence Institute) and Miami Florida, with Life Publisher’s and retired from FedEx at 62 years of age, after 20+ years of service

She was a faithful and devoted Christian and a member of Northland Cathedral Church where she enjoyed bible study and dedicated her time to numerous ministries, including divorce care and women’s ministries. Supporting the work of Missions and Missionaries in the Assemblies of God, including her Grandson, was a great love of Lurlyne’s as well.

She loved spending time with her family and friends.  She enjoyed NASCAR with her husband Don, football and concerts with her grandsons, shopping with her daughters and weekly outings with her close friends.

She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her husband Don Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; her daughters, Rochelle and husband Mick Yangmi, Nicole and Joseph Cunningham, and Chantal and Ryan Moyer, all of Overland Park, Kansas…Grandsons, Joshua, Zechariah, Jacob, Elijah, and Jackson Cunningham, and Michael and Brandon Yangmi;  Brother, Melvin Jones; and many extended family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Northland Cathedral Church on Friday, April 8th with the visitation from 1-3pm, followed by the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Northland Cathedral c/o Ray Buckner Young Adult Missions Scholarship Fund.
