Marietta Dean
Irwin
Sep 4, 1943 — May 31, 2026
Marietta D. Irwin, devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2026, at the age of 82.
Marietta was born on September 4, 1943, to Emmett and Vida Brink of Parkville, Missouri. As the oldest of five children, she learned early the importance of family, a value she carried throughout her life. She graduated from Park Hill High School and went on to build a successful career, spending many years working in the Collections Department at Citibank.
She was married to Reed Engles, and together they had three children before his passing.
On June 3, 1991, Marietta married Terry Irwin. Together they shared 35 years of life, united by their love of travel and creating memories wherever their journey took them. Through the blending of their families, they were blessed with seven children, 19 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life and whom she adored more than anything.
Marietta found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She especially loved spending quality time with her family and loved ones, creating memories they will cherish forever. She also enjoyed tending her flower gardens, where she delighted in watching butterflies and hummingbirds. Her home was often the heart of family gatherings, and she became well known for her banana nut bread and homemade strawberry shortcake. Family members would eagerly compete for her famous peanut butter balls. Of all her favorite foods, however, nothing compared to morel mushrooms.
Those who knew Marietta will remember her strong faith, feisty spirit, and deep devotion to her family. She was never afraid to speak her mind, stand up for what she believed in, or lend a helping hand when needed. Her legacy lives on through the family she loved so deeply and the countless lives she touched along the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Vida Brink; her brother, Russell Brink; and her foster son, Jason Morley.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Irwin; her children, Sheila (Mike) Berry, Robert (Cathy) Engles, Jarett Engles, Terry Jr. (Amber) Irwin, Michelle Hatfield, and Elisa (Harry) Henderson; her sisters, Dianna Edvalson and Kathy Peisert; her brother, Randy Brink; her sisters-in-law, Connie Brink and Janane Brink; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Thursday, June 4, 2026, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. and funeral services at 2:00 p.m.
Marietta's love, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family will be cherished forever.
