Obituary

Mark O. Messick, 66, of North Kansas City, Missouri, passed away October 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on February 8, 1960, in Topeka, Kansas, Mark’s family moved to Manhattan, Kansas shortly thereafter. He was raised in Manhattan and attended Manhattan schools. In 1980, he moved to Kansas City, where he held several positions over the years in the wholesale building materials industry. Most notably, in 1994, with two good friends became part of Great American Building Materials, Inc. in North Kansas City. The company grew and flourished until it was sold in 2021 to a St. Louis-based roofing company. Although operating under a new name, the company continues to enjoy great success. Outside of work, Mark enjoyed spending time fishing, playing a round of golf now and then, cheering on K-State sports, and, of course, faithfully rooting for the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. He appreciated life’s simple pleasures and time spent with family and friends. He is survived by his father, Charles, and his wife, Virginia, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; his brother, Allen (Amber), of Bern, Kansas; his brother, Mike (Kathy), of Soper, Oklahoma; his sister, Kathy, of Raymore, Missouri; and his brother, Bryan, of Kansas City, Missouri. Although he had no children of his own, he was blessed with numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

A visitation will be held from 10am to 11am on October 17, 2026, at Terrace Park Funeral Home, 801 NW 108th Street, Kansas City, Missouri 64155. A graveside service will take place on October 17, 2026, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas.
