Mark W. Nichols

April 27, 1948 — May 5, 2025

Mark William Nichols, 77, of Pleasant Hill, Missouri, was born April 27, 1948, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Charles Donald and Helen Rose Nichols. He departed this life on Monday, May 5, 2025, at his home, surrounded by love, family and friends.

Mark was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969.

On June 13, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mary Louise Edwards in Kansas City, Missouri. Together they had two wonderful children, Heather Ann Green (Chuck) and Jason William Nichols. Mary preceded Mark in death on December 18, 2018, and Jason on July 13, 2021. Mark was also preceded in death by his parents Charles and Helen Nichols, two brothers Robert Nichols and Donald Nichols, and one sister Marilyn Messick.

Mark was a hard-working Teamster who drove semi-trucks for many years. He retired in 1999 and traveled the country with Mary and dog Harley in their RV home. They loved living on the road and often hosted family and friends when they would visit. He was a proud member of the VFW honor guard serving as a gun volley for veteran’s funeral services. Mark was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and rode for many years. He belonged to the Venture Touring Society and the Motorcycle Touring Association. He also enjoyed hunting, guns, antique cars, cigars, and a good whiskey. While he wasn’t a big sports fan, he always rooted for the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. He also loved spending time with family and friends; he had a magnetic personality and never met a stranger. Mark will be forever missed by those who loved him.

He is survived by his loving companion Nola J. Boyd, who took wonderful care of Mark before his death, his daughter and son-in-law Heather and Chuck Green; brothers Charlie Nichols (Sandy); Jerry Nichols (Linda) and Gordon Spencer, and one sister Mary Young (Lonnie) and many other dear relatives. He was also close to Nola’s children Stephanie Ray (Danny), Leanne Miller (Mark), and Tim Lamb (Vicki), along with their children.
