Marla Chermaine Norris, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, peacefully passed away on May 1, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on November 17, 1942, Marla's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, creativity, and a profound commitment to her family and community.
Marla was also a dedicated member of the Northland Mission Church since 1993, where her faith and commitment to service shone brightly. She lived her life with compassion and generosity, reflecting deeply held values that inspired those around her.
Marla met her husband, Larry, in Newton, Kansas, one evening after Wednesday night church. Their love blossomed, leading to nearly 63 years of marriage—a testament to their unwavering bond and shared values. Together, they embarked on an incredible journey, which included spending three transformative years in Costa Rica. While Larry devoted his talents to architecture, Marla poured her heart into her own American clothing dress shop, delighting in the success of sold-out shows at the local hotel.
Her vibrant personality was nothing short of magnetic. Known as a quiet extrovert, Marla had an innate ability to light up any room she entered. With her boundless smile and outgoing spirit, she captivated those around her, leaving an enduring impression on everyone she met. Marla's talents extended beyond design and entrepreneurship. She was a celebrated chef of the home, particularly renowned for her egg rolls and her mastery of guacamole—earnestly claiming the title of the “Queen of Guacamole," making it with fresh limes instead of lemons. Her cooking brought joy and togetherness, as she often hosted dinners that fostered connection and warmth among family and friends.
Marla fought strongly through her battle with Alzheimer's, and the family has asked that memorial contributions be made the the Alzheimer's Association, located at 8001 Conser Ste 240, Overland Park, KS, 66204.
