Martha "Lucy" Louise Wettengel, 77, of Topeka, Kansas passed away on September 16, 2023.
Lucy was born on December 7, 1945 in Tupelo, Mississippi. She was one of fourteen children born to James “ Frank” Kincade and Ollie “Aner” Kincade. She attended school in Mississippi until her family moved to Topeka, Kansas. It was there that she met and married the love of her life, Teddy Wettengel. They were married on July 3, 1964 and from this marriage were blessed with two children. Lucy had a long career in production, working for American Bindry and Jostens Printing. When she wasn’t hard at work she enjoyed taking trips – especially to Las Vegas, hosting and perusing local garage sales, keeping her meticulously tidy home, and adding to her impressive collection of jewelry, clothing, angels, birds, and more. The focus of Lucy’s life was always her family. She enjoyed hosting holiday get-togethers and was known for her incredible down-home Southern cooking, which included cookies, sweet tea, and the infamous peanut butter cake. She often reminded everyone of her love of Patrick Mahomes, and called her family members to make sure they were “watching the game”. Lucy’s effortlessly chic style and caring personality are just a few of the many wonderful qualities that will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings; Betty Hatley, Frances Mead, Pearl Alexander, Bobby Kincade, Vicky Kincade, Everett Kincade, and Bill Kincade. She’ll be fondly remembered by her husband, Teddy Wettengel; children, Sheri (Larry) Brosemer and Jerry (Juniper) Wettengel; grandchildren, Danielle, Brandon, and Nicholas Brosemer, Payton (Nolan) Christian, Riley and Paisley Wettengel, and Cobin and Cameron Retter; five great grandchildren; siblings, Charles and James Kincade, Marie Snodgrass, Mary Grubich and Diane Snoe; and many extended family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Topeka, KS on Thursday, September 21, 2023, with visitation at 11am, funeral service at 12pm, followed by the entombment. Flowers are welcome, or contributions may be made to Midland Hospice.
