Martha Virginia Slinkard

Martha Virginia Slinkard went home to Jesus May 17th, 2025

Born on August 15th 1940 in Excello, MO, Martha was the youngest child of James Maxey and Hazel Lorraine (Brock) Miller. Martha is preceded in death by her parents and 8 loving brothers and sisters, David, Alan, Lula, Richard, Helen, Mary, Joseph and Walter.

Martha met Jake Slinkard in Jefferson City, MO and were joined in marriage on September 16th 1961 in Excello, MO. Martha and Jake were married for nearly 59 years until his death in 2020.

Martha was a faithful member of Winnwood Baptist Church for over fifty years where she sang in the choir, was an active member of Women’s Missionary Union (WMU), leader of Girls in Action (GA’s), taught children every summer in Vacation Bible School and was instrumental in organizing Operation Christmas Child, a ministry that is still active today!

Martha was very talented! She was an accomplished pianist; she was also an excellent seamstress making dresses for her grand children and crocheting Afghan blankets for her great grandchildren and was also talented with pen and ink.

Martha was active in her community teaching English as a Second Language and a volunteer for North Kansas City School District with Adventure Club.

Martha loved her family and is survived by her daughter Susan Parker (Danny) of Pleasant Valley, MO and Jeff Slinkard (Sue) of Independence, MO. Grandma Jake also leaves behind six grand children, Emily Langkamp (Vince), Melissa Raine (Michael) Nathan Parker, Amber Brown (Seran), Sean Minnis (Christy) and Cody Minnis (Jenna) and seven great grandchildren, Myla, Maci, Mason, Wren, Ellis, Ezekiel and Finn. All of Aunt Marty’s nieces, nephews and many friends are sad to see her go.

Visitation and Memorial Service will be held at Winnwood Baptist Church on Friday, May 23 with visitation beginning at 12:00pm, followed by the Memorial Service at 1:00pm. Graveside Service will take place immediately after at Terrace Park Cemetery.
