Mary Ann
Brasfield
March 6, 1944 – April 4, 2026
Mary Ann Brasfield, 82, of Kansas, Missouri passed away on April 4, 2026.
Mary was born on March 6, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri. As a teenager, she moved with her family to California. Her sister-in-law set her up on a fateful date with an old grade-school friend that had also moved to California, Franklin Brasfield. The moment he walked through the door she knew she was going to marry him. After they began dating she began working at Howard Hughes. There she helped manufactured equipment used in missions leading up to the first Moon landing.
Mary was united in marriage to Franklin Brasfield on February 1, 1964. They moved back to the Kansas City area where Mary devoted many years to caring for their three children.
For over 30 years, Mary and Frank made their home at Lake Viking, where they shared a passion for life’s simple joys, especially their love of fishing. The two were active in the ham radio community, known by their handles “Silver Fox” (Mary) and “Loose Change” (Frank). With her quick wit, Mary could add up numbers faster than a calculator. She later worked at North Kansas City Bowl and in the cafeteria for the Park Hill School District.
She found great joy in playing cards, bingo, and she never passed up a chance to try her luck in Las Vegas. Mary was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley and the Kansas City Royals, and she loved cheering on her team. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family and friends.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Geraldine and Chris Bonner; and sister, Caron Bonner. She will be fondly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Franklin Brasfield; children, Jeff Brasfield, Kimberley (Mike) Duncan and Debra (Aaron) Lugo; grandchildren, Keith (Kala) Abramson, Blake Duncan, Austin (Haley) Duncan, Lanney (Gavin) Bradford, McKenna (Brady Kreitzer) Duncan, Malaina (Chris) Ligette and Aiden Lugo; great grandchildren, Sawyer Abramson, Finn Abramson, Madi Duncan, Theodore Dykes, Duncan Krietzer, Penelope Dykes, Milli Duncan Memphis Duncan, Caius Bradford and Lincoln Kreitzer; and many extended family and friends.
