Mildred Louise Rhone, 84, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and cherished memories. Born in Kellogg, Iowa, and raised in Des Moines, Millie graduated from East High School, where she forged lifelong friendships and began her journey as a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
In 1965, she married the love of her life, John Rhone. Together, they shared 52 wonderful years of marriage, raising three children: Bill (Michelle) Rhone, Diana Rhone, and David (Cheryl) Rhone, and welcoming the joy of grandchildren. Millie’s family was always her top priority, and she created a home filled with warmth, kindness, and love.
In 1984, Millie and John moved from Des Moines to Kansas City, where they built a new life and continued to focus on family and friends. Millie and John shared many interests, including bowling, golf (with Millie proudly achieving a hole-in-one), and weekend trips to the dog track and casinos. They loved all our Kansas City sports teams and on game days/nights, could faithfully be found in their familiar recliners cheering on the boys in blue, the red & gold, and others. They also enjoyed hobbies like woodworking and stained-glass art, often including family and friends in their activities. After John’s passing in 2017, Millie cherished the memories of their adventures together. In her later years, Millie found joy in watching old Westerns, drawing comfort from their familiar stories.
Millie is survived by her three brothers: Jim (Linda) Grant, Gale (Sue) Grant, and Gary (Denise) Grant; her children and grandchildren. Her enduring spirit of adventure and her love of family will be remembered by all who knew her.
As Millie was a cancer survivor, and that friends and family, including her late husband John, were affected by the disease, she, and her family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her name to the American Cancer Society.
Services will be held at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery on Thursday, September 19th, with visitation beginning at noon, followed by the funeral service at 1pm, and burial.
